Rebuke: GOP Holds Wisconsin Senate

by Stephan Tawney on August 10, 2011

Despite the tens of millions of dollars spent by union bosses, despite the nationwide lefty media demonization of Governor Scott Walker, and despite local fearmongering of Armageddon, the Republican Party has tonight retained control of the Wisconsin State Senate.

We won.

And boy is the victory sweet. We’re watching liberals spin their loss into a victory, insisting that they’d like victories like these in 2012. I hope they have victories like these in 2012, too.

After all of that demonization, after all of the media’s help, after the millions upon millions of dollars spent by their union buddies, Democrats — supposedly far more motivated than Republicans today — only managed to flip two seats. Republicans defeated them in four more, and soon Republicans get the chance to oust several Democratic incumbents.

This wasn’t just a victory for Republicans — it was a victory for taxpayers. Voters decided that they wanted to continue the reforms that saved school districts money, reduced spending to reasonable levels, and ensured that there would no tax hikes in a recession. It was also a victory for future generations who would have to bear the debt burden.

But while we celebrate, this isn’t over. The left will continue their assault. They’ll next try to recall Governor Walker. They’ll continue to lie, scaremonger, and wage proxy wars. We must defeat them at every turn. The days of allowing them to gain ground at the state level while we just concentrate on the federal level must end. We have to fight them — and win — on every level of government.

Update: I should also note that progressive hero and former senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) rallied the troops for this one. He made appearances, used social media, and got out the vote. And they still lost. What a rebuke of the left’s reckless policies.
