Yeah, funny how we’re only supposed to stop donating to politicians now that Democrats are out of favor and Wall Street has turned back to Republicans. Suddenly it’s time to cut off the political donations.

Not in 2008 when Obama and the Democrats were receiving a flood of donations from Wall Street. No, that was just fine. But now, now that Republicans are back in favor, it’s time for a boycott.

Schultz wrote in a widely distributed email dated Monday that, like “so many common-sense Americans,” he wants elected leaders to consider “all options, from entitlement programs to taxes,” and reach a wide-ranging budget deal “long before the deadline arrives this fall.”

Schultz concluded with a promise: “We today pledge to withhold any further campaign contributions to the President and all members of Congress until a fair, bipartisan deal is reached that sets our nation on stronger long-term fiscal footing. “

And so he intends to do that by holding back political further political contributions — a move that will hurt challengers with smaller warchests more than incumbents with large bank accounts. Or does the ban only apply to incumbents? The report doesn’t say.

Here’s what we know: Schultz is being supported in his effort by Democracy 21 — an Orwellian named group that seeks to limit free speech. Democracy 21 is headed by Fred Wertheimer, who previously led far-left group Common Cause and whose wife is Linda Wertheimer, a host on left-wing radio network NPR. Wertheimer, who provides a quote favorable to Schultz’s endeavor, argued that free speech can be banned before an election — including speech in the form of a book.

This whole project sounds so fantastic, huh? Now that Democrats are out of favor, liberals have decided that it’s time for big donors to boycott political contributions. No doubt the boycott will end once Democrats are back in favor once more.
