You silly conservatives, worrying about freedom of conscience when it comes to issues like gay marriage. Of course people won’t be punished for daring to oppose the liberal social agenda.
Jerry Buell, a veteran American history teacher at Mount Dora High School, was removed from his teaching duties as school officials in Lake County investigate allegations that what he posted was biased towards homosexuals.
“We took the allegations seriously,” said Chris Patton, a communication officer with Lake County Schools. “All teachers are bound by a code of special ethics (and) this is a code ethics violation investigation.”
Patton said the school system received a complaint on Tuesday about something Buell had written last July when New York legalized same sex unions. On Wednesday, he was temporarily suspended from the classroom and reassigned.
Her crime? Saying unions are fine but marriage should be restricted to its traditional definition. She also noted the religious basis — and subsequently her basis — for opposition to the redefinition of marriage.
The liberals in the school system didn’t appreciate her thought crime, so she has been suspended — freedom of speech be damned.
But who cares, right? She was probably a crappy teacher anyway. Or not. Actually, she was the 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year in her school.
They suspended a 22-year veteran teacher who provides high-quality education…because she has the same position on gay marriage as both the President of the United States and Speaker of the House.
This is the inevitable end result of liberal social engineering: Punishing people for disagreeing. Just as Catholic adoption centers were forced to leave Massachusetts because their religious beliefs meant they couldn’t adopt to gays. You either toe the liberal social line or you pay the price. It’s all about equality and eliminating discrimination — just so long as you’re the right kind of person.

As a lesbian Christian I hope that every Christian parent at the school pulls their kids out and demands that the state provide a Christian-friendly public school system or else pay for their kids’ tuition at Christian schools.
Don’t be fooled— the lefty-liberals out to eliminate the sacrament of marriage and replace it with a government social program DON’T speak for all Gay and Lesbian people!

Know what the funniest thing about this post is? It’s that Jerry Buell, a middle aged man, is referred to as a woman 9 times. I know that fact checking isn’t a right wing strong suit, but come on…..you really can’t be bothered to determine if someone named “Jerry” is a man or a woman?
But aside from that, you really need to look at the context of what he wrote. Had he made a post that simply stated “I disagree with the State of New York’s decision”, as you’re romanticizing it to be, then a suspension would not be warranted at all. However, this man, who is Facebook “friends” with close to 700 students, said that same-sex unions were a cesspool that made him sick to his stomach. I don’t want to speak for everyone, but I’ve never been involved in a situation where being told that I make someone physically ill didn’t deter my ability to see that person as a trusted authority figure.
