Poll: Romney, Perry, Bachmann All Lead Obama in Florida

by Stephan Tawney on August 23, 2011

A new poll from Megellan Strategies has very bad news for Team Obama: All three leading Republican candidates — Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, and Michele Bachmann — would defeat Barack Obama in Florida if the election were held today.

Perry: 46% Obama: 39%

Romney: 49% Obama: 39%

Bachmann: 43% Obama: 42%

The Obama/Bachmann results are within the margin of error, but the mere fact she’s giving him a run for his money in a swing state that voted for him in 2008…remarkable. Both the Perry and Romney results are outside of the margin of error.

Floridians disapprove of the job Obama is doing by a greater margin than the national average. Just 37% approve of his job performance; 57% disapprove. Just 37% say he deserves reelection; 57% say it’s time for a new president.

His friend, Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL), is also underwater. 27% have a favorable opinion of the incumbent; 40% have an unfavorable opinion. 26% say Nelson deserves to be reelected; 39% say it’s time for a new senator.

Republicans are also dominating the generic ballot. 43% of voters say they would prefer the eventual Republican nominee to Bill Nelson. Just 38% would stick with the tax-and-spend liberal incumbent. Republicans lead 42-36% in a generic Republican/Democrat senate match-up.
