Because apparently they have a policy against employees engaging in politics, or something.
ESPN is coming down on Paul Azinger for mocking President Barack Obama on Twitter. The golf analyst tweeted Friday that the Commander-in-chief plays more golf than he does — and that Azinger has created more jobs this month than Obama has.
ESPN has ‘reminded” Azinger his venture into political punditry violates the company’s updated social network policy for on-air talent and reporters issued yesterday.
“Paul’s tweet was not consistent with our social media policy, and he has been reminded that political commentary is best left to those in that field,” spokesman Andy Hall told Game On! in a statement.
Ah, I see. So political commentary through social media is unacceptable for ESPN’s on-air talent and reporters.
Which is funny, because (via Tommy), I don’t recall Adam Schefter being publicly criticized by ESPN for praising Barack Obama. Here’s what Schefter Tweeted on May 8th:
On 60 Minutes, President Obama never was more impressive. On why he didn’t release photos of Osama: “We don’t spike the football.”
Calling Obama and his policy decisions “impressive” is apparently okay. But noting Barack Obama is golfing quite a bit and has a bad jobs record? Can’t have that. Shut up, on-air talent. No talk of politics is allowed.
MORE: Tommy finds more political tweets from Schefter:
With football shut down, 800 players are waiting for contracts. With our government shutting down, 800,000 federal employees won’t get paid.
Attention NFL owners and players. Thought you’d find this interesting during Shutdown Times. RT @Cdub150: Our troops aren’t getting paid.
This came as pressure was mounting on Republicans to approve a debt ceiling increase and the left was scaremongering to push one through.
