Tip: Make sure your car was actually manufactured in the United States before preaching about supporting American workers by purchasing American-made vehicles.
Labor Secretary (and pro-union shill) Hilda Solis is learning as much the hard way.
“What better example could I set if I encouraged my staff to go and purchase and seek how we could acquire a vehicle that would for me would send a signal that we’re for supporting our American workers, American-made products, fuel efficient as well.”
Which is why she purchased a Chevy Equinox — which is manufactured in Ontario, Canada. By Canadian workers.
Mark Perry notes that Solis could have supported American workers by purchasing a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord — both of which are assembled in the United States. And she had more choices, too:
The Labor Secretary could have also considered one of the other top 10 “American-made” cars like the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, or the Toyota Tundra. But we all know why that won’t ever happen – those cars are mostly built in “right-to-work” states by non-union American workers.
Indeed. Which is the real reason she purchased a Canadian-manufactured vehicle.
Those Chevy Equinox workers might not be American — but they are union. And union trumps nationality for these folks. She’d rather support union members in Canada than non-union American workers.
All while lecturing the rest of the country on supporting American workers.
