By now you’ve heard that aides have told Fox News that Texas Governor Rick Perry (R) is running for president. Well, local news station KVUE in Austin handed Perry the Associated Press story on his supposed imminent announcement. He signed it:

His aides have told Fox News exclusively that he’ll run. He kind of admitted as much during an interview with Time’s Mark Halperin earlier today, but this is the first specific confirmation. He’s in. Texas Gov. Rick Perry will make “a definitive announcement that he is in the 2012 race for the presidency Saturday,” aides [...]

Um…okay. Texas Governor Rick Perry’s prayer event “The Response last weekend raised plenty of eyebrows for coming on the heels of much presidential speculation, and for featuring a number of pastors with some controversial views. On her program tonight, Rachel Maddow tried to find the common thread among these pastors, and she argues it is [...]

32% of Democrats Want Primary Challenge for Obama

Pew entitles this: Democrats Not Eager for an Obama Challenger But really? The headline here is that a majority of Democrats don’t want their own party’s chief embarrassingly primaried? It’s not that 32% of Democrats want to see another nominee in 2012? Or that 9% are open to the idea? The big story here is [...]

How Reliable is the Ames Straw Poll in Predicting Winners?

I’ve been asked why I place little-to-no interest in the Ames Straw Poll. Simple: It tells us very little about the eventual nominee. Here’s what happened: Barack Obama went to Dover to meet the returning bodies of the Navy SEALs killed on Saturday. Usually photography is permitted during these ceremonies, but the families requested privacy so the media was banned from taking pictures. It was to be a solemn, photography-free ceremony. But that didn’t happen. Why? Because the [...]

This isn’t going to help win him conservative cred. Hell, it’s not going to help him win moderate cred. If there’s one thing all sorts of Republicans oppose, it’s tax hikes. It’s perhaps the single strongest uniting factor in the party. Gov. Mitt Romney lobbied the credit ratings agency Standard & Poor’s in 2004 to [...]

U.S. Trade Deficit Widens in June

The U.S. trade deficit widened more than expected during the month of June, hitting $53.1 billion rather than the $48 billion economists had expected. But hey, let’s keep pushing more unsustainable mandates and regulations on our private sector. Let’s keep handing unions more power so they can make the sector even less competitive globally. That [...]

Idiots Wonder Why the Markets Are Turbulent

Please note that when I say “idiots” I’m referring to the talking heads who get paid to analyze the situation and yet have to ask every single guest/co-host why the markets are acting the way they’re acting. Gee. I don’t know. Maybe because: The world’s biggest economy was just downgraded. Italy, an economic powerhouse, may [...]
