Is Peyton Manning Out for the Season?

The highest-paid player in the professional football may be out for the season — before the season even begins. CBS News reports:

INDIANAPOLIS (CBS) – A radio station in Indianapolis is reporting a rumor that Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning had a third surgery this week and is out for the season.

WNDE radio host Jake Query reported that a source told him that Manning had a third surgery either Sunday or Monday and is done for the season. A second source told Query that the surgery was on Manning’s lower back, not his neck, as was the case with two previous surgeries.

The Colts have already announced that Manning will miss the team’s season opener on Sunday. Team doctors have told Manning to stop practicing with the team until further testing can be conducted following a surgery in May to repair a nerve.

Manning was recently signed to a 5-year, $90 million contract extension. That makes him the highest-paid player in the National Football League. How ironic should he be forced to sit out the season.
