Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN) reportedly intends to slam Texas Governor Rick Perry (R) over his assertion that Social Security has become a “Ponzi scheme”. If she does, it will be tremendously hypocritical.
See, last year Bachmann went on Fox Business and referred to Social Security as a “tremendous fraud”. She went on to say that private sector individuals running an operation like Social Security operates would be “thrown in jail.
You can watch the video here.
Is Bachmann going to allege that “Ponzi scheme” is over the line while “tremendous fraud” is just fine? Or will she back out of her earlier statement, flip-flopping on one of the biggest issues facing America today? Or will she ignore her previous comments and yet attack Perry for holding the same position she does (or did)?
Perhaps she should just stay away from the issue entirely. She can’t hit Perry without being a hypocrite, so unless she plans to back him up (very unlikely) her only other alternative would be to stay out of the fray. Which might be the best option for her anyway. Don’t get bogged down.
