The United States Supreme Court has denied a stay of execution for convicted cop-killer and lefty cause celebre Troy Davis.
The state of Georgia will now proceed to execute Davis, who was convicted of murder in 1989.
Anti-death penalty activists claim Davis should be granted clemency because several witnesses later recanted their testimony. They say that creates reasonable doubt, and therefore Davis shouldn’t be executed.
However, federal courts have upheld the conviction for more than two decades.
Multiple eye witnesses (including members of the Air Force) have never recanted their testimony; ballistic and blood evidence connects Davis to the shooting; and the defense has shown an incredible unwillingness to bring in for questioning those they insist are the real guilty parties.
So now the execution moves forward. Another cop-killer will tonight be brought to justice.
