Thad McCotter Drops Presidential Campaign

by Stephan Tawney on September 22, 2011

In related news, Thad McCotter was running for president.

This had to be one of the most pathetic campaigns in modern political history. So much potential, and yet I’d be surprised if even 1% of the electorate knew he was even running. It wasn’t that people didn’t like him. Most just didn’t know he existed.

On his way, McCotter — a Republican congressman from Michigan who supported the auto bailouts — threw his support to Mitt Romney. The same Mitt Romney who McCotter said in June could be Barack Obama’s running mate. My how times change.

Fun fact: McCotter, whose endorsement Romney will gladly receive, is on record calling Social Security a Ponzi scheme.

One must wonder if Perry will viciously attack McCotter as he’s done to Rick Perry. For some reason I doubt it. Maybe it’s okay for certain people to slam Social Security in Romneyville. Others — particularly those standing in the way of Romney’s political ambition — should be attacked for the same sin.
