A suspect has opened fire on the American embassy in Bosnia, injuring a police officer who was guarding the building. Embassy security surrounded the suspect in a 30-minute standoff before shooting him. There’s no word on the condition of the police officer.
Local media report the shooting was an attempted terror attack against the embassy. He has been informally identified as Mevlid Jasarevic, a Serbian national and Wahhabi Muslim. The Associated Press says he was dressed in an outfit typical for “conservative” followers of the sect.
Update: BBC News reports the gunman was wounded and treated for injuries but is apparently still alive. It seems he was carrying an AK-47.
UPDATE: We have video of the suspect during the attack. The second video comes as the gunman is shot. The man had a beard and was indeed dressed in the reported garb.
And here’s that second video. Be warned, you’ll hear the shot and see him fall.
