Just No: The View Wants to Host Republican Debate

by Stephan Tawney on October 31, 2011

I can see it now. Jon Huntsman, struggling to rise above 1% in the polls, takes the opportunity to get any attention he can get.

The View women, bitter over the rejection by other Republican candidates who don’t feel like getting bashed for an hour, spend the time talking about how Huntsman is the only “reasonable” Republican in the race. By which they mean he has a habit of bucking Republican ideals and acting like a Democrat. In short, he doesn’t challenge their plans for the country.

Megan McCain then writes an article, one proclaiming it was a big mistake for Republicans to skip a big opportunity to present themselves to the all-important demographic that is women who watch an almost all-liberal talk show at 11am. Because women who watch mostly liberals ranting against conservatives are totally open to voting for a Republican over Barack Obama.

The end result will be a few blog times, a video clip or two on nightly commentaries, and absolutely no impact on the race. Everyone’s time wasted, the show’s viewers will still overwhelmingly vote for Barack Obama because he’s cute and smart, or something. And no Republican will ever again agree to a “debate” on that God-awful show.

There I’ve saved us the time and trouble. Can we move beyond this stupid idea now? Thank you.
