House Overwhelmingly Votes to Reaffirm “In God We Trust”, Encourage Placement in Public Buildings, Schools

The House of Representatives this evening overwhelmingly voted to reaffirm “In God We Trust” as the national motto of the United States, and to encourage the placement of the motto in public buildings, schools, and other taxpayer-funded institutions. The vote was 396-9. Just 1 Republican and 8 Democrats opposed the measure.

Support was so bipartisan in nature that hard-left liberals like Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi, Lynn Woolsey, and Alcee Hastings joined with almost every Republican in reaffirming the motto. It was a rare display of overwhelming bipartisanship in a Washington frozen by a divided Congress and White House.
