The 2012 Republican Field is Officially Set

That’s it, ladies and gentlemen. The window of opportunity is closed. The field we have now is the field we’ll have next year.

The Republican Party of Florida — a key state in the race for the nomination — has submitted the names of nine candidates for the primary ballot.

The Republican Party of Florida on Monday submitted the names of nine candidates for the Jan. 31 ballot: Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Gary Johnson, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum.

Meanwhile, South Carolina’s filing deadline is today. No candidate is winning the nomination without being on the ballot in either Florida or South Carolina. Being left off the ballot in just one state could be disastrous. Both? A death blow for campaigns.
