Romney Endorses Orrin Hatch Over Conservative Challenger

by Stephan Tawney on March 2, 2012

But of course.

Hatch is an election year conservative. By which I mean he talks like a conservative during an election year and then spends five years all over the place.

Hatch voted for TARP. He voted to bailout Fannie and Freddie. He has voted to raise the debt ceiling no fewer than 16 times. He voted for new entitlements like Medicare Part D.

He’s part of the problem in Washington, and he’s being challenged in the Republican primary by conservative state senatorĀ Dan Liljenquist.

We have an opportunity to replace a Washington insider who’s been inside the beltway since 1977 with a fresh, conservative alternative who can win.

So naturally Mitt Romney endorses the guy who’s been in Washington since 1977, voted for bailouts, votes to raise the debt ceiling, and supported expansions of entitlements.

Amen brotha. Hatch is a Big Government sell out. Forget strategy, influence, experience etc. Hatch is a Progressive sell out

Strategy? It’s a deep red state.

Influence? He’s used that to secure pork, get other Republicans to support entitlement expansions, and push bailouts.

Experience? Robert Byrd had plenty of experience, too. Nancy Pelosi has been in Congress for three decades. What matters is experience doing what? For Hatch, that’s been breaking with conservatism on really big issues.
