A little noticed sentenced from CNBC’s report on today’s weak jobs report:
Though the headline number indicated job creation, the total employment level for the month actually fell 169,000.
Yet the government still insists the unemployment rate fell.
Why? Because hundreds of thousands of workers gave up looking for work. People just gave up, so they dropped from the workforce. That theoretically lowers the unemployment rate.
