Report: FBI Menendez Investigation Moves from Miami to Newark
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s investigating into the links between Dr. Solomon Melgen and Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) has moved from the Miami field office to the Newark field office, sources tell The Daily Caller.
Federal agents have already raided the offices of Melgen, a Florida-based eye doctor under investigation by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for Medicare fraud. His claimed medical qualifications are also now in doubt.
Menendez is known to have taken at least two trips to the Dominican Republic on Melgen’s private jet — trips he didn’t report or reimburse Melgen for prior to the scandal going public. The New York Times reports Melgen later bought controlling shares in a security company that Menendez helped secure a $500 million contract.
The Daily Caller, which initially broke the story last year, additionally reports that while in the Dominican Republic Menendez was involved with prostitutes — including some who may have been underage at the time. Menendez has denied the allegation.
The reported move of the investigation from Miami to Newark would seem to indicate that the investigation’s focus has shifted more towards Menendez.
