Half of Households Pay No Income Taxes

Unless something changes to even out the financial load, we’re witnessing the beginning of the end of the republic. You simply can’t maintain this country with a majority able to vote for the minority to pay for everything. You can’t have a majority with no financial interest in the federal government and who runs it.

Imagine a future where a minority of Americans have to pay all of the taxes but don’t have enough political power to determine who runs the nation. The majority, with no financial interest in maintaining limited government or smaller budgets, would keep electing leaders who promise to take even more money from the minority to give to the majority.

The tax-free majority would, effectively, keep voting itself free services and in general more money from the minority. The minority would be locked into funding everything the majority wants, unable to overcome the political power of the majority moocher class.

The result is a tax system that exempts almost half the country from paying for programs that benefit everyone, including national defense, public safety, infrastructure and education. It is a system in which the top 10 percent of earners — households making an average of $366,400 in 2006 — paid about 73 percent of the income taxes collected by the federal government.

Until, of course, the minority decides to stop making enough money to qualify for a tax burden, decides to stop being a class of suckers. At which time the tax revenue for the government will completely collapse.

Update: Allahpundit asks:

Isn’t the inequity of the income tax a good argument for a consumption tax? The VAT’s as close to a flat tax as we’re ever likely to get.

I’m all for the VAT if it replaces the current income tax scheme. But as nothing more than an add-on it? It suppresses economic activity and hands over more of our money to Washington to waste.

The ultimate solution would be a flat tax. You pay a steady, certain amount and you’re done. No million pages of tax code or penalization for success. If you make $50,000 per year you pay the same percentage of your income as you would pay if you made $1 million.

IRS Chief: Buy Health Insurance or Lose Your Tax Refund

Newly-empowered IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman has issued a threat to taxpayers: Purchase government-mandated health care insurance or lose your tax refund.

Shulman notes that the IRS isn’t legally permitted to freeze bank accounts or seize your home, but when pressed he conceded that those citizens who don’t comply with the federal mandate would end up losing their tax refund.

The government-run health care legislation passed by Congress and signed by Barack Obama implements a fine of $325 per person, beginning in 2015, on those who fail to purchase government-mandated insurance. The per person fine increases to $695 the next year.

“The vast majority of American people have a healthy respect for the law and want to be compliant with their tax obligations,” Shulman said, mentioning letters, collection notices and offsets as among the various ways the IRS will reach out to people without coverage.

In other words, the IRS is counting on the vast majority of Americans to comply with an unconstitutional overreaching of authority by Congress. Otherwise, there goes your tax refund. It’s (unconstitutionally) legalized extortion.

The government-run health care legislation provides for the hiring of 16,000 new IRS bureaucrats, so you’re being unconstitutionally extorted through the use of your own money. It’s the ultimate insult.

Taxpayer-Funded NPR Insults Just About Every Non-Liberal

Concerned about massive expansions of the federal government that would come through Congressional healthcare reform legislation? Don’t want bureaucrats coming between you and your doctor? Oppose the elimination of the private sector through the implementation of a government-run system?

Well, congratulations. The notoriously left-wing NPR just spent your tax dollars to insult you through animated video format.

In a video that both Jon Stewart and MSNBC would consider too hackish to run with, NPR calls everyone who disagrees with Nancy Pelosi’s position on healthcare reform idiots.

If you don’t want the government making your medical decisions and running your healthcare in the future, you’re just a “paranoid” reactionary who ignores the horrors committed by the insurance companies.

Best use of your tax dollars since the government spent $27 million in non-existent zip codes.
